Julian Rouas Paris

If you happen to know fashion, then you also know the news that fashion designer Patrick Robinson has created a summer clothing collection for Target is definitely something to be excited about.

Patrick Robinson is a California-born fashion designer who graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York. He has worked in the high fashion industry with the likes of Anne Klein and Giorgio Armani. The latest project in his up-and-coming career has been to design a summer line of clothing for Target that debuted in May 2007.

The collection focuses on versatility-pieces that you can mix and match, and wear for a variety of different occasions. The designs, prints, and fabrics are inspired by one of the more romantic, exotic and alluring destinations in the world-Greece. Imagine sun drenched fields of olive trees, Mediterranean villages, ancient Grecian ruins, azure seas and white sand beaches, and you won't wonder why Robinson chose this country as his source of inspiration for his new summer line of clothing for Target. The collection features antique prints, light materials like cotton gauze, linen, and a refreshing mix of modern and vintage pieces that pair beautifully together to create striking ensembles.

The Grecian inspired designs are most evident in elegantly draped dresses such as Robinson's Crisscross Strap Knit Dress. It very clearly evokes the elegant and characteristic lines found in ancient statues of the Greek goddesses. The rich purple hue called Roseville adds to the regality of this comfortable summertime dress, and I'm willing to bet it looks divine with a good tan.

Two of my favorite prints that are featured in various items of the collection are the bohemian-looking medallion print and the more subtle rosette print. You can find dresses, skirts, and tops in different versions of these elegant, old-world prints. One worth checking out is the crisp blue-and-white print Knotty Strap Knit dress.

Another very versatile piece is the Printed Reversible Tank rosette and russet beige. The tank can be worn to show off either the solid side or the rosette print side, in addition to being able to wear it with the straps crossed in front to create a striking halter look that will really show off your tanned summer shoulders. For chillier weather or an evening outdoors, you can cover up with the collection's fresh-looking Linen Jacked in Buckwheat.

In all, this is a refreshing, stylish and joyfully affordable collection. Target did well to collaborate with such a creative and intuitive fashion designer. You can check out the entire collection at www.target.com.
